Summer Adventure Support Staff

Job Description:

 
If you’re looking for a position where you work in a community-based therapeutic recreation programby providing services for teens and young adults with special needs through afterschool and summer “adventure” programs, consider joining St. David’s Center in our mission to build relationships that nurture the development of every child and family.

 

Position Overview: St. David’s Center is hiring Support Staff to work at ourSummer Adventure sites, providing services to teenage clients with special needs in a recreational group setting. Support Staff are responsible for providing a safe, structured environment for participants to build friendships, participate in various physical and social activities, and become more involved members of their community.

 

 
Support Staff are responsible for 2 or 3 clients at a time. Responsibilities include:

 

  • Actively engaging with participants in all activities
  • Promoting full participation, peer interactions and positive behavior(s) in group settings
  • Providing communication and emotional regulation and personal cares as directed
  • Ensuring participant(s) safetyTransporting designated participant(s)

 
Schedule:  M-F depending on candidate availability. Shifts fall between 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
 
 
Adventure sites are in Minneapolis and St. Louis Park.

This is a temporary position, beginning June 11 and ending August. Upon completion, the opportunity may exist for part-time hours at one of our Afterschool Adventure sites.

 
Pay Rate:
$12/hr.

 You might be an ideal candidate if you meet the following qualifications:

 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and an acceptable driving record
  • Applicants must have the ability to use clear and understandable written and verbal English
  • Must be able to monitor the safety and well-being of the participant(s) by managing, both verbally and physically, active or behaviorally involved participant(s)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both through written and verbal communication
  • Good organization and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn and perform procedures for the care of an individual with special needs
 
You might be extra awesome if you:

 

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Training/education in therapeutic recreation, recreation and leisure studies, social sciences, education, health care, and/or human services
  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of development disabilities, community resources and activities
