Safety Coordinator

The Safety Coordinator reports to the Wells, MN plant Safety Manager and provides daily support to the Rosemount plant employees, Production Manager and QC Manager. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for employee safety training, coordination of plant safety programs and assists in environmental compliance. 

The Rosemount facility has ~50 employees, manufactures two primary product lines, and has no batch plant or metal shop.


Plant safety duties:

  • Leads safety training of new employees, covering major work processes in the plant and yard. Assesses a new employee’s grasp of the training curricula and identifies areas for continued learning.  Recommends dismissal of new employees who fail to embrace training principles and / or fail to work safely.
  • In cases of minor injuries, transports the employee to the clinic and is a resources for the attending medical professional on issues relating to what occurred and what alternative work activities are available if the medical professional assigns work restrictions.
  • Identify, implement or recommend for implementation, and maintain plant safety processes to help keep employees injury free.
  • Build a safety culture and hold employees at all levels accountable for demonstrating behaviors that embrace the safety culture.
  • Assist in Rosemount’s random drug testing process. Transport employees to a drug testing facility for purposes of conducting a drug test in cases of reasonable suspicion or property damage.
  • Perform Job Safety Analyses and BSP audits and implement changes accordingly.
  • Maintain recordkeeping to comply with all OSHA guidelines.
  • Immediately coaches and corrects employees’ unsafe acts, as well as recognizes safe behaviors to reinforce their repetition.
  • Manage plant workers comp. cases, including guidance and assistance to get employees back to work after a work related injury.
  • Provide reporting of accident goals and trends to all levels of management.
  • Complete accident investigations to drive understanding of root causes to eliminate them from future occurrences.
  • Work with OSHA inspectors as needed to comply with voluntary programs as well as non-scheduled inspections.
  • Build safety procedures into our normal processes to reduce company liability and risk, and audit all processes to ensure compliance.
  • Evaluate PPE and plant related safety equipment (e.g., rigging, saws, ladders, etc.) and make changes as needed.
  • Work with local safety committee to ensure positive change is happening and progress is monitored.
  • Monitors, performs and/or schedules all testing at respective location. Examples include annual hearing tests, sound levels, etc.
  • Help with MSDS files and update on the electronic log as needed. Also provide information for Project Bid packages
  • Provide reporting of accident goals and trends to all levels of management.
  • Acts in professional manner that demonstrates the individual has good character and can be trusted by all employees.

Plant environmental duties

  • Conduct storm water sampling and monthly inspections.
  • Ensures site compliance with Air Permit requirements and may maintain rolling 12-month reporting to state PCA.
  • Maintains Hazardous Waste Permits.
  • Executes Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan.
  • Conducts monthly inspections and ensures reporting of spills to the respective state PCA. Order and maintain inventory of absorbents for spill prevention and clean up.
  • Administer Tier II Reporting (Community Right to Know).
  • Acts in professional manner that demonstrates the individual has good character and can be trusted by all employees.


  • Must have a MN class D driver’s license, a driving record free from violations (except parking violations) for the past 5 years to insure coverage under the Company’s liability insurance policy, and a reliable automobile.
  • Ability to train and coach employees.
  • Motivated and self-driven.
  • Usage of hand tools, material handling equipment and rigging.
  • Knowledge of products the company uses and which products would work best.


  • Associates Degree preferred. As an equivalent to the Associates degree, 2 years’ experience in plant safety in a precast concrete facility (preferred) or a heavy manufacturing facility, including environmental compliance and reporting
  • In addition to the degree or equivalent, a minimum of 2 years’ experience in plant safety in a precast concrete facility (preferred) or a heavy manufacturing facility including environmental compliance and reporting.
  • OSHA 10 and 30 hour certifications are preferred but not required.  Applicants who do not have the certifications are expected to obtain them within 6 months of hire


  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Heavy physical activity for four hours per day during employee training sessions. Activity includes bending, stooping, lifting, pushing/pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, exposure to outdoors, including wind and winter cold.
  • Moderate to high exposure to production environment.
  • Travel as needed to local clinics, jobsites and around the plant.
