Community Behavioral Health Hospital (CBHH) in Alexandria is seeking a full-time Recreation Therapist to join a team dedicated to quality care. Operated by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, CBHH Alexandria is a small inpatient psychiatric facility that provides rapid assessment and stabilization for adults experiencing an acute mental health episode.

Duties of the Recreation Therapist include:

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement therapeutic recreation programs to emphasize skill building, leisure education, and wellness within a Psychosocial Rehabilitation model.
  • Administer therapeutic recreation assessments and develop goals for treatment plans addressing risk areas.
  • Facilitate outcome-based group sessions related to patients’ needs, strengths, and limitations.
  • Participate as an active member of the multidisciplinary team and provide consultation to other disciplines for implementation of programs.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to paraprofessional staff in the delivery of leisure and recreational activities.


Minimum Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must have a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Park/Recreation, Corrective Therapy, or Physical Education.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working with individuals with mental illness or behavioral health conditions.
