Department Overview

Health Information Management is responsible for the:

* Oversight of the quality, timeliness, and accuracy of the medical record and patient indexes for patient care, legal, revenue, research, and regulatory needs;
* Classification of diagnosis and procedures according to approved classification and nomenclatures such as ICD-9, CPT, Snomed, etc.
* Maintaining the security and integrity of health information;
* Providing documentation tools/services such as dictation, transcription, electronic templates, scribes, and paper forms;
* Collection, quality control, and dissemination of data for comparative data bases and statistical reports including specific disease and procedure registries;
* Providing access to medical record information through release of information processes.

Position Summary

The Ambulatory Clinic Coding Supervisor is a working supervisor responsible for coordinating the day-to-day functions of coding for Children's primary care clinics, emergency departments including facility and professional fee coding. The coding supervisor leads staff to ensure timely, accurate, comprehensive assignment of CPT codes and modifiers and ICD-10 codes that reflects completely the clinical treatment, decisions, severity of illness, and diagnoses for the patient. The coding supervisor is the subject matter expert for encoder, abstracting, and computer assisted coding technology and leads staff in the utilization of automated tools including Cerner's EHR, Cerner ProFile, 3M 360 product and 3M Codefinder/DRGfinder and other available tools.

License/Certification/Registration required? Yes

Maintains an active coding certification from either the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or from the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) as a certified coder in any one of their specialty coding certifications.

Education:
High school diploma, GED and coding education required to demonstrate knowledge of coding classifications and nomenclatures and basic skills such as English composition and grammar and base line knowledge. Associates or bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.

Experience:
* 3-5 year experience in a healthcare clinic or hospital coding both ICD and CPT
* Experience with pediatric coding preferred
* Experience coding in a health care facility with complex medical conditions preferred

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
