As an ambitious, self-motivated individual with a lifelong interest of working with children and diverse cultures, Gayle Bryant offers a set of skills that welcomes her as a valuable asset to the diversity sector.
With an influential and commanding focus to exceed the standard of implementing cultural integration strategies, Ms. Bryant demonstrates a unique ability to dismantle entrenched race beliefs through her lectures. Her educational and practical knowledge base, charismatic nature, and eclectic ability, lend her support in connecting with all cultures through: audio/visual means; coaching on self-awareness and reflective techniques; teaching advocacy empowerment, and storytelling. She also takes risks in acknowledging how social; government; and media influences contribute to the construct of our cultural lens, which often clouds our perception of the world we live in.
Ms. Bryant has a keen ability to connect with people on a multilevel basis. She encourages participants of her workshops to question and challenge current and historical politics regarding race, oppression and discrimination, often leaving her audience striving to be the change in their community. Ms Bryant demonstrates great leadership ability, outstanding oratory skills and is a highly competent writer. She has also specifically, made it her life’s work and passion to connect and collaborate extensively with community and social service programs, which serve economically and culturally diverse populations throughout Minnesota.
Ms. Bryant has completed four years of graduate work experience in the domain of Counseling and Statistical Research from Mankato State University [now, the University of Minnesota, Mankato] and received her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. As a native resident of Michigan, Ms. Bryant reflectively provides testimony to her encounters and confrontations with institutional racism, segregation, race profiling, gender, age, and sex discrimination. Ms. Bryant is considered an agent of positive change in her own right and as an outgrowth of all of her research, education, advocacy work and community involvement, she develop and independently financed Creating A Better World ©, a diversity consulting business.
Ms Bryant’s entrepreneurialship, Creating A Better World ©, has been her most gratifying and productive work experience in the domain of cultural research, cultural competency and education for over 12 years. Creating A Better World © was founded in 1997 as one of few business’ dedicated to networking with African American, Somali and Sudanese populations as they transitioned to Mankato seeking educational resources, a cohesive community to raise their families, ESL resources or refuge from their homeland. Ms. Bryant served as a culturally competent advocate through hosting several culture awareness workshops and seminars to help bridge the gap of segregation between the community and the increasing diverse population. Although the success of her work was concentrated in the realm of community outreach, she considered her most impactful work made with children, as they were open and motivated to suggest, accept and implement changes to dismantle variables that contribute to the concept of racism and segregation.
Ms. Bryant uses historical and current vignettes to educate, guide and advise the “Norm Culture” on the importance of understanding their cultural history and the history of racism. From her full-day diversity workshop to her brief hourly presentations, Ms. Bryant’s distinctive presentation style captivates audience’s attention and heightens their cultural consciousness. Ms. Bryant, recognizes the importance of social, political and economic inclusion by revealing the truth about how race is defined and the reason it continues to determine the core of Americas economic base. She decisively draws her audience in and encourages them to challenge their entrenched beliefs based on familial and personal experience as well as their worldview of different cultures as portrayed through the media. Ms. Bryant’s unique style and accomplishment in the realm of cultural competency awareness is most successful because she lays a foundation based on respectful dialogue in a safe and healthy setting which empowers people to think differently and use a proactive response to dismantle racism. |
