SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Bilingual Instructional Assistant will be responsible for supervision of students and supporting programs during the school day.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with individual or small group instruction as directed by the teacher.Assists teacher in monitoring students, maintaining order and discipline, and attending to individual student needs.Assists teacher in preparing instructional materials and in setting up special projects in the classroom.Assists with small group work/support, read alouds, and 1:1 student interaction and assessment.Assists with school programs as assigned.Supports bathroom and health needs of students.Supervision of an entire classroom, support in the cafeteria and recess, etc.Operates standard school equipment.Performs other related duties as assigned by the teacher or Principal.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to read and interpret directions and comprehend written information disseminated in the school.Ability to articulate expectations to students.Ability to communicate in oral and written form using correct grammar and usage.Ability to perform basic operations on numbers taught in Elementary School mathematics classrooms.Ability to apply common sense reasoning in carrying out detailed but simple written or oral instructions.Ability to manage problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and community.Ability to demonstrate caring and warmth for children and an understanding of children's needs.Ability to demonstrate good listening skills and the ability and willingness to collaborate and cooperate with other staff in accomplishing the goals of the school program.Flexibility is needed in this positionBilingual in English and Spanish.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects in the performance of the job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment may be noisy and hectic at times and may contain the normal stresses associated with managing student behavior while assuring the safety and well-being of young children and helping students and staff to accomplish the expectations outlined in the school program.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED.Experience working with young children.
